A former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, has formally obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination Form to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Elumelu’s move is already generating ripples within Delta State’s political landscape, particularly in Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, where he previously held sway under a different political platform.
The development is widely interpreted as a significant political shift, given Elumelu’s longstanding association with opposition politics and his prominence as a ranking lawmaker in the National Assembly.
Political observers say the decision to align with the ruling All Progressives Congress may alter existing power dynamics in Delta politics, especially as the build-up to 2027 intensifies.
Sources close to the politician indicated that the acquisition of the form signals not just an intention to return to the Green Chamber, but also a recalibration of political alliances at both state and national levels.
“Elumelu remains a grassroots politician with deep connections across his constituency. This step is strategic and reflects ongoing consultations with stakeholders,” a party insider disclosed.
The former lawmaker, who once served as Minority Leader in the House, built a reputation for legislative advocacy, constituency engagement, and involvement in national policy debates.
Analysts note that his entry into the APC race could spark a keen contest within the party, particularly among aspirants seeking the party’s ticket in the constituency.
While Elumelu is yet to formally declare his campaign, political watchers believe the procurement of the nomination form is a clear signal of intent and a precursor to intensified consultations and mobilization.
The coming months are expected to witness increased political activities in Delta State, with alignments, endorsements, and possible defections shaping the trajectory of the 2027 elections.
