The Ebonyi State Security Council has lifted the dusk-to-dawn curfew earlier imposed on Amasiri Community in Afikpo Local Government Area of the state following months of security tension in the area.
Briefing journalists after the State Security Council meeting held at the Governor’s Office, Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mrs. Eneh Kolawole, said the council approved the lifting of the restriction after reviewing the security situation.
She, however, noted that security operatives would still maintain a presence in the community to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.

“Minimum security will still be deployed to forestall further breakdown of law and order, while those apprehended in connection with the crisis will be charged to court,” she stated.
Recall that the State Security Council had on January 30, 2026, imposed the curfew on Amasiri Community following the alleged beheading of four persons from Okporojo Community in Edda Local Government Area.
The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Ben Odoh, explained that the decision to lift the curfew followed several appeals and reconciliatory moves by stakeholders from Amasiri.
According to him, “the action followed a series of letters of remorse from Amasiri people which were accepted by the Okporojo people and their various hierarchy of traditional institutions.”
Speaking on the controversy surrounding the proposed delisting of Amasiri Development Centre, Dr. Odoh disclosed that the move had been rejected by the government after consultations with community leaders and elders.

“We have persuasion and pleas from the Founding Fathers and Elders Council to reject the delisting of Amasiri Development Centre. Consequently, a memo will be sent to the State Assembly conveying the rejection and by implication we now have complete 64 Development Centres,” Odoh added.
Also speaking, the Head of Service, Dr. Rita Mary Okoro, said the council directed the immediate reopening of schools and hospitals in the community.
She further revealed that civil servants earlier redeployed from Amasiri due to the crisis would be recalled to their duty posts.
“A memo will be sent to relevant agencies to recall to their previous duty posts all those civil servants who were transferred out of Amasiri as a result of the crisis,” she said.
