The Nigerian Army has commissioned 49 welfare and infrastructure projects across the country to improve accommodation and working conditions for its personnel, with Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, inaugurating 11 of the projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Among the projects is a newly constructed Officers Transit Accommodation at Life Camp, Abuja, which Shaibu commissioned on Thursday, 29 October 2026.
According to a statement issued on 29 October 2026 by APPOLONIA ANELE, Colonel, Acting Director Army Public Relations, the projects are aimed at addressing accommodation shortages and other infrastructure challenges across Army formations and units, while improving the welfare of officers, soldiers and their families.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shaibu said the initiative reflected his Command Philosophy, particularly the principles of Sound Administration and the Soldier First Concept, which prioritises personnel welfare as part of efforts to build a professional, adaptable and combat-ready force.
He noted that providing adequate accommodation and functional facilities was important to maintaining morale, improving productivity and enabling soldiers to carry out their duties effectively.
The Army Chief urged officers who would use the new transit accommodation to take proper care of the facility and maintain the discipline and sense of responsibility expected of military personnel.

He also pledged to sustain investment in welfare and infrastructure across Army formations nationwide, while expressing appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his continued support to the Nigerian Army.
Earlier, the Chief of Logistics (Army), Major General Adekunle Adeyinka, said the Officers Transit Accommodation was designed to provide temporary housing for officers posted to Army Headquarters and other formations in Abuja.

He explained that the facility consists of furnished, self-contained apartments with modern amenities for officers awaiting permanent accommodation.
The arrangement, he said, would help ease temporary housing difficulties while providing officers with a more comfortable place to stay as they settle into their new assignments.
Beyond the commissioning ceremony, Shaibu inspected ongoing projects at Life Camp, including additional accommodation blocks, road rehabilitation and drainage works.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of construction but directed contractors to meet approved deadlines and adhere to the required specifications.

The commissioning of the 11 projects in Abuja, alongside 38 others across Nigerian Army formations and units nationwide, reflects the Army’s efforts to address infrastructure needs and improve the living and working conditions of its personnel.
The projects are also expected to support the day-to-day administration, training and operational activities of the force by providing officers and soldiers with more functional facilities.
