The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, has assured residents of Plateau State of the Nigerian Army’s resolve to restore enduring peace and security in the state and across the country.
The assurance was given on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House, Jos, as part of the COAS’s operational and familiarisation tour of Army formations in Plateau State.

Shaibu commended the Plateau State Government for its sustained support to the Nigerian Army, especially the Armoured Corps, describing the state as a strategic partner and the home of the Armoured Corps.
He said while the security challenges confronting Plateau State are complex, they can be overcome through sustained collaboration, effective intelligence sharing and the collective commitment of all stakeholders.

According to him, the Nigerian Army remains committed to the professional deployment of its personnel and resources to safeguard lives and property and to mitigate security threats.
“With all hands on deck, lasting peace on the Plateau is achievable,” the COAS said.

Responding, Governor Mutfwang congratulated Shaibu on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff and commended the sacrifices and professionalism of Nigerian Army personnel nationwide.
He noted that despite being overstretched by multiple deployments, the Army has continued to demonstrate resilience and gallantry in the discharge of its duties.

The governor specifically lauded troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE for their proactive efforts, which ensured peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations in Plateau State in 2025.
Mutfwang reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to supporting both kinetic and non-kinetic operations and called for sustained cooperation to address lingering security challenges.

During the visit, the COAS also paid homage to the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, assuring him of the Army’s commitment to fully restoring peace in the state.
The traditional ruler appreciated the visit and pledged to continue sensitising youths and communities to sustain the peace achieved so far.

The visit, according to the Army, highlights the critical role of sustained civil–military collaboration among the Nigerian Army, state governments and traditional institutions in promoting peace and stability.
