Families of deceased police officers in Delta State have received ₦25.4 million in welfare and insurance claims following the deaths of their loved ones who served under the command.
The Delta State Police Command on Thursday, 17th September 2026, presented 46 cheques totalling ₦25,405,226.57 to families and next-of-kin of the deceased officers at the Police Command Headquarters in Asaba.
Presenting the cheques, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, said the payment was part of the welfare and insurance schemes of the Nigeria Police Force designed to provide financial support to families of officers who lost their lives in service.
Erale said the gesture reflected the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, to the welfare of police personnel and the families they leave behind.
He acknowledged that the financial support could not replace the lives of the deceased officers, but said it was important that their sacrifices were recognised and that their families did not feel abandoned after their loss.
For some of the beneficiaries, the payment came as an unexpected form of support.
Speaking on behalf of the families, Moses Evelyn Animi thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner for the gesture, saying the beneficiaries were pleasantly surprised when the command contacted them because they had not expected the payment.
She expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Police Force for remembering and supporting the families of their departed loved ones.
The Commissioner sympathised with the beneficiaries and urged them to use the funds judiciously, particularly for the welfare and education of the children and other dependants left behind by the deceased officers.
He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to facilitating the prompt processing of legitimate claims owed to families of deceased personnel.
Erale assured serving officers that their welfare and that of their families remained a priority of the Nigeria Police Force.
