Minority Leader of the 9th House of Representatives and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, OON, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, describing June 12 as a powerful reminder of the sovereignty of the people and the imperative of unity and good governance at all levels.
In his Democracy Day message, Elumelu said June 12 occupies a unique place in Nigeria’s democratic history, symbolizing the collective struggle, courage and sacrifices made by patriots who fought for the entrenchment of democratic rule in the country.
He paid glowing tribute to the late Chief MKO Abiola, whom he described as the symbol and epitome of democracy in Nigeria, noting that his sacrifices and unwavering commitment to the democratic cause, alongside other patriots, remain an enduring inspiration to generations of Nigerians.
According to Elumelu, Democracy Day should not only be viewed as a tribute of the right to vote, but as a reinforcement of the responsibility of government to provide citizens with the dividends of democracy, including security, economic opportunities, social justice and improved living conditions.

“June 12 reminds us of the power of the people and the responsibility that comes with leadership. Democracy is not only about elections; it is about ensuring that citizens enjoy the benefits of good governance in every aspect of life.
“As we celebrate this historic day, leaders at all levels of government must remain committed to protecting the people and deploying public resources for their welfare and development,” he stated.
He noted that those entrusted with public office have a duty to demonstrate responsibility in the exercise of power and ensure that public resources are effectively utilized to address the challenges facing society.
He noted that ideal of June 12 has been underlying spirit behind the efforts being exerted by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration in tackling the challenges facing the nation and the citizens.

He commended President Tinubu for what he described as bold and courageous efforts to address the country’s economic and security concerns, expressing confidence that the challenges confronting the nation are being confronted with determination and a strong sense of responsibility.
He also commended the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, for his commitment to the development of the state through the proactive implementation of his administration’s MORE Agenda, which he said continues to drive infrastructure expansion and socioeconomic growth across Delta State.
Elumelu further reassured the people of his continued commitment to service, pledging to remain a beacon of hope and a dependable voice for the interests of the people.
He said he would continue to champion initiatives and programmes aimed at improving the lives of constituents while remaining relentless in his pursuit of policies that promote development, inclusion and social progress.
While appreciating Nigerians for their resilience in the face of prevailing economic and security challenges, Elumelu expressed optimism about the future of the country, noting that the policies and reforms being implemented by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are designed to reposition the nation and rekindle hope among citizens.
He therefore called on the citizens to remain united and steadfast in supporting efforts geared towards national development, peace and security.
“Together, as one people united by a common destiny, we can overcome every challenge confronting our nation. Let us continue to uphold the values of democracy, support one another, pray for our country and work collectively towards a future of peace, progress and shared prosperity,” he said.
