A fiery open letter from a Delta State citizen, Laurence Izegbu, has blasted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the deplorable state of Nigeria’s highways, warning that the government is failing its people as transport drivers and commuters suffer untold hardship.
In the strongly worded letter dated October 2, 2025, Izegbu accused both federal and state governments of neglect and empty promises, declaring that road users are being “abandoned to fate” by leaders who prefer rhetoric to action.
“Transport drivers are suffering, with some forced to sleep on the road due to the appalling conditions. Heavy-duty trailers on roads not designed for them have worsened the crisis, causing frequent collapses and grinding economic activity to a halt,” he wrote.
Izegbu demanded that the President immediately summon all 36 governors and lawmakers to an emergency meeting, insisting that all distractions must end until Nigeria’s road crisis is fixed.
“It’s unacceptable for lawmakers and governors to claim busyness when our roads are in shambles. Suspend all other discussions. The time for excuses is over. Nigerians are tired of praise-singing and hollow promises. The world is watching, and Nigeria’s reputation is at stake,” he charged.
Challenging Tinubu directly, he added: “Fixing our roads is the first real step to renewing hope. Mr. President, show Nigerians you are different. Give us results, not propaganda.”
Izegbu concluded that Nigeria needs leaders who prioritize the welfare of their people over political games: “We don’t need talk shops. We need action. We need leaders who will put citizens first — starting with the roads that connect us all.”
