The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has been honoured with the African Boy Child Development Award in recognition of his efforts in promoting integrity and youth empowerment.
The award was presented on Friday during the maiden edition of the Africa Culture Fashion Show and Awards held at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
According to the organisers, the EFCC chairman was recognised for his leadership in promoting integrity, protecting young people from crime and advancing initiatives aimed at empowering the African boy child.
Olukoyede, who was represented at the event by the Head of the EFCC’s Enlightenment and Re-orientation Unit, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, Aisha Mohammed, expressed appreciation for the honour and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to promoting ethical values among young people.
In a goodwill message delivered on his behalf, Olukoyede described the event as a celebration of Africa’s rich cultural heritage and creativity.
“I am honoured to give a goodwill message at this inaugural African Cultural Heritage Fashion Show and Awards. This event is a testament to Africa’s cultural diversity and the creativity of our people,” he said.
He noted that Nigeria’s cultural diversity remains one of the country’s greatest strengths, citing the existence of over 250 ethnic groups with unique traditions in food, music, fashion and festivals.
The EFCC chairman also highlighted the role of the fashion industry in economic development across Africa but warned about challenges confronting the sector.
“As we celebrate our heritage, let us also acknowledge the challenges facing our industry, including counterfeiting, piracy and money laundering,” he said.
He assured stakeholders that the EFCC would continue to promote transparency and fight corruption across sectors of the economy.
“To the African boy child, the EFCC believes in you and your potential to shape the future of our continent. Embrace integrity, reject corruption and let your values guide you,” he added.
The Africa Culture Fashion Show and Awards was organised to celebrate African cultural heritage, promote fashion innovation and empower young Africans through creative expression.
