FCT police raid crime flashpoints, arrest 300, recover knives, drugs, toy gun

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested approximately 300 persons during a massive raid on identified crime flashpoints, shanties and uncompleted buildings across the Territory.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, was aimed at disrupting criminal activities, preventing crime and enhancing the safety and security of residents.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement, saying the operation targeted several suspected criminal hideouts across the Territory.
According to her, knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs were recovered during the raid, while the suspects are currently undergoing thorough screening and profiling.
Adeh said persons found to have committed offences would be charged to court in accordance with the law, while those found to have no case to answer would be released after due screening.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led raids and proactive policing operations, particularly in locations identified as potential criminal hideouts.
Sanusi also cautioned youths and other residents against the use and abuse of illicit drugs, warning that substance abuse could impair judgment, encourage violent and criminal behaviour, and expose individuals and communities to serious security risks.
The commissioner urged persons struggling with drug use to seek appropriate counselling and rehabilitation support rather than allowing substance abuse to lead them into criminal activities.
He further directed police officers participating in such operations to conduct themselves professionally and in strict compliance with the law.
Sanusi warned officers against using raids and arrests as avenues for extortion, intimidation, harassment or unlawful demands for money, stressing that personnel found engaging in such misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The FCT Police Command urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information about suspicious activities and criminal hideouts within their communities.
