Nigeria recorded a notable improvement in petrol availability in March 2026, with national Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) supply rising to 62 per cent, according to the latest fact sheet released by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
The report indicates a steady recovery in fuel distribution across the country, reflecting ongoing efforts by regulators and industry operators to stabilize supply chains and reduce scarcity in key consumption areas.
Data from the fact sheet shows that daily PMS supply averaged over 50 million litres during the month, a development attributed to enhanced import coordination, improved logistics, and increased contributions from domestic refining.
The NMDPRA noted that strategic interventions, including tighter monitoring of product distribution and collaboration with stakeholders, played a critical role in ensuring more consistent availability at retail outlets nationwide.

In addition to PMS, the Authority reported stability in the supply of other petroleum products such as Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK), signaling broader improvements across the downstream sector.
The report also highlighted ongoing efforts to curb sharp practices such as hoarding and diversion, which have historically contributed to artificial scarcity and price distortions in the market.
Industry analysts say the improved supply figures could help ease pressure on transportation costs and general inflation, particularly if the gains are sustained in the coming months.
However, the NMDPRA acknowledged that challenges remain, including infrastructure constraints and fluctuations in global oil prices, which continue to impact supply dynamics and pricing.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regulatory oversight, enhancing transparency, and supporting policies aimed at achieving long term energy security for the country.
It further assured Nigerians that it would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to consolidate the gains recorded in March and ensure a more reliable and efficient fuel supply system nationwide.
