The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has vowed to bring to justice the perpetrators of an attack on two of its personnel in Niger State, which claimed the life of one officer and left another seriously injured.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at about 11:30 a.m., when two personnel attached to the Wawa Control Post were attacked by unidentified armed men while conducting routine surveillance patrol along the Tunga Taya–Woro axis of the state.
The deceased officer, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration I.U. Babangida, died in the attack, while Inspector A.K. Musa sustained serious injuries but managed to escape and is currently receiving medical attention.
The Service disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by its Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi.
According to the statement, the remains of the deceased officer had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
The Service paid tribute to Babangida, describing his death as a painful loss and acknowledging his sacrifice and commitment to duty.
It also commiserated with the family, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased, while wishing the injured officer a speedy recovery.
The NIS assured both families of its continued support and assistance during the difficult period.
The Service further disclosed that it was working in collaboration with the Niger State Government and relevant security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
It vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice, stressing that the incident would not deter its personnel from carrying out their statutory responsibilities.
The Immigration Service reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial borders despite the attack, assuring Nigerians that it remained resolute in the discharge of its national security duties.
