The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), has set the agency’s 2026 operational targets, directing commanders to dismantle drug cartels and intensify sensitisation campaigns nationwide.
Marwa gave the directive at the agency’s annual review and planning meeting held at the NDLEA National Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting was attended by members of the management, zonal commanders, commanders of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, seaport and airport commanders, the Marine Unit commander, and heads of the Strike Force and Special Operations Units.

Addressing the commanders, Marwa said the agency had begun the year on a strong footing, building on record-breaking achievements of previous years.
He noted that 2026 would focus on consolidating gains in Drug Supply Reduction and Drug Demand Reduction.
“The results we achieved last year were significant, but we cannot afford to rest on our oars. Our 2026 goals are clear: we are here to completely disrupt the financial lifelines of drug cartels and ensure that every community in Nigeria is sensitised against the scourge of substance abuse,” he said.

He urged the commands to ensure seamless implementation of the agency’s strategic work plan.
According to him, “When I first assumed office, I made certain declarations about the direction of this Agency and the resolve to confront drug barons and kingpins.
“We have now successfully concluded five years… we must consolidate these gains and aim for even greater outcomes.

“Today, the Agency commands increased respect, both locally and internationally.
“The renewal of my tenure by the President is largely a reflection of your work.
“This year, we are here to set clear targets.
“Operational professionalism and zero tolerance for compromise are non-negotiable.
“Advocacy and sensitisation efforts must be intensified.
“State Drug Control Committees must be strengthened.”
Marwa reassured Nigerians of the agency’s commitment to protecting youths and families from drug abuse.
He said the agency’s strong start to 2026 showed that there would be no breathing space for drug traffickers.
He urged citizens to continue providing useful information, stressing that the fight against drugs is a collective responsibility.
