The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed multiple pumping machines to facilitate the recovery of its crashed aircraft at Igbokoda, Ondo State, as it engages residents over concerns about the possible impact of the operation on their water source.
In a statement signed by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, on October 16, 2026, the Air Force said recovery teams were working to access the main wreckage, which remains submerged and deeply embedded in the riverbed, with difficult underwater conditions slowing progress.
Following a visit to Igbokoda by the Air Officer Commanding, Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal MC Ekwueme, met community leaders and residents on the directive of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.
During the visit, Ekwueme acknowledged concerns raised by residents about the potential impact of the recovery operation on their water source and assured them that the service was committed to addressing the issues through appropriate channels.

He also thanked the community for its patience and cooperation as efforts to recover the wreckage continued.
At the crash site, the deployment of pumping machines is intended to remove water from the area surrounding the wreckage, paving the way for the next stage of the recovery operation.

However, the depth at which the aircraft lies and the challenging riverbed conditions have made the exercise complex, requiring specialised technical support, sustained effort and careful coordination.
The NAF said its personnel remained committed to advancing the operation safely while respecting the dignity of the victims.

The ongoing efforts come amid the grief of bereaved families and growing public interest in the recovery operation, with the Air Force acknowledging the concerns of Nigerians awaiting further developments.
Beyond the search and recovery efforts, the service has also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the families affected by the crash.
According to the NAF, the Chief of the Air Staff has assured that all applicable entitlements, including benevolent funds, scholarships for eligible children and other approved welfare benefits, would be processed.
The service said its responsibility to the affected families extended beyond the recovery operation, adding that it remained committed to providing assistance with compassion and dignity.
It also disclosed that a dedicated helpline had been established at the Headquarters Nigerian Air Force to help affected families access timely and appropriate information.
On the environmental concerns raised by the Igbokoda community, the NAF said it would maintain engagement with residents and work through the appropriate channels to address the issues.

The service expressed appreciation to community members, recovery personnel and partner agencies for their cooperation, pledging to continue the operation and provide verified updates as significant developments occur.
