The Nigerian Air Force has commenced an investigation into reports alleging civilian casualties following an airstrike in Jilli on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
The Service said it received reports suggesting that the operation may have impacted a local market, raising concerns over possible harm to civilians.
In a statement issued to newsmen, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Ehimen Ejodame, said the development is being treated with utmost seriousness and empathy.
He noted that the protection of innocent lives remains a core priority in all operations conducted by the Air Force.
According to him, the Chief of the Air Staff has directed the immediate activation of the Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation Cell to assess the situation.
The investigative team has been tasked to proceed to the location to carry out a detailed fact finding mission on the allegations.
The Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and transparency in the discharge of its duties.
It also stated that it would collaborate with relevant authorities and community representatives to establish the true circumstances surrounding the incident.
While the investigation is ongoing, the Service urged the public and media to avoid speculation and allow due process to take its course.
