Personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO have arrested two suspected armoured cable vandals in Akakumama Community, Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, in a crackdown aimed at protecting critical national infrastructure in the Niger Delta.
The suspects, identified as Mr Williams Sunday and Mr Ayebadye Ikartie, were apprehended on May 23, 2026, by personnel deployed to OBAMA Houseboat while allegedly vandalising armoured cables supplying electricity from the OANDO Flow Station to Akakumama Community.

Security sources said the act, if not swiftly stopped, could have disrupted electricity supply and negatively impacted operations within the area.
The arrest followed what officials described as credible intelligence on the activities of three suspected vandals operating around the community. Acting on the report, FOB FORMOSO deployed a patrol team to the location where the suspects were allegedly caught in the process of vandalising the cables.

While one of the suspects reportedly escaped on sighting the patrol team, the operatives successfully arrested the other two.
The operation, according to the naval formation, highlights the commitment of FOB FORMOSO to protecting critical infrastructure, maintaining security within the maritime environment, and combating economic sabotage across the Niger Delta region.

The arrested suspects were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Oil and Gas Unit, Bayelsa State Command, on May 24, 2026, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
