The Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA) has commended the board of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), led by Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for their roles in delivering a stable and well-organised 2025/26 season.
With the league now at Matchday 35 and no outstanding fixtures, the campaign reflects clear administrative progress and improved structural discipline. The NPFL board’s ability to maintain a consistent calendar, aligned with continental schedules, marks a notable shift from past disruptions and underscores growing professionalism within the league.
The NFCA also acknowledged the board’s handling of sensitive issues throughout the season, noting its proactive approach in preserving the integrity of the competition and ensuring continuity.
The association further highlighted the NFF’s supervisory role and its contribution to key development initiatives. Ongoing efforts to strengthen coaching capacity and improve refereeing standards have translated into better organisation and overall match quality.
On the pitch, the league has remained highly competitive. With three matches to go, both the title race and relegation battle are still open—an indication of balance across the competition. Increased away victories, the emergence of young talents, and a tighter contest among leading goal scorers point to steady technical and tactical progress.
According to the NFCA, these gains reflect deliberate improvements in governance, planning, and stakeholder coordination. Enhanced matchday logistics and growing confidence in officiating further underline the strides made this season.
As a key technical body, the NFCA reaffirmed its support for the NPFL board and recognised the NFF’s role in driving these achievements, noting that continued collaboration remains vital for sustained growth.
The association, however, urged stakeholders to maintain focus on critical areas, including strict club infrastructure compliance, expanded broadcast coverage, the adoption of a centralised football data system, and the effective use of end-of-season technical reports to guide future development.
The NFCA expressed confidence that with sustained commitment, the NPFL will continue to strengthen its standing within African football and close the gap with leading leagues globally.
