The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that it will commence nationwide ward-level enrollment for the National Identification Number (NIN) on Monday, February 16, 2026.
The Commission said the exercise follows a presidential directive mandating it to take NIN registration to the grassroots and wards across the country.
In a statement on Tuesday, signed by the Head, Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, PhD, NIMC said the exercise is designed to ensure the comprehensive registration of all Nigerian citizens and legal residents, including children and adults, into the National Identity Database.
It added that the enrollment will be conducted free of charge in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, aimed at promoting inclusive governance, national development, and access to identity services.
According to the Commission, the ward-level initiative represents a strategic step towards deepening identity inclusion, decentralising services, and improving access to registration.
It noted that the initiative will reduce travel burden and promote nationwide participation in the NIN exercise.
NIMC urged Nigerians and legal residents who are yet to register to take advantage of the opportunity and participate fully in the exercise.
The Commission disclosed that it has commenced stakeholder engagement at national, state, and local government levels through sensitisation and awareness campaigns.
It said state governments, local government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, and faith-based organisations are being consulted to ensure seamless registration nationwide.
Members of the public were encouraged to come out en masse to enrol their children, parents, and family members within their communities.
NIMC stated that ward enrolment schedules guiding the movement of licensed partners and staff are available on its website, www.nimc.gov.ng.
It added that inquiries and complaints can be directed to its toll-free line, 08000616462.
