Ogun CP intervenes as doctor waives N300,000 hospital debt for bereaved woman

The intervention of the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Olubode Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, has brought relief to a bereaved woman after a doctor voluntarily waived her outstanding N300,000 hospital bill following the loss of her baby.
The woman, Precious Mathew, from the Ogooluwa area behind Owode Market, approached the Owode-Yewa Police Division on September 13, 2026, over the hospital debt incurred after she underwent a Caesarean Section at Longe Hospital Medical Centre, Sabo, Owode-Yewa.
Precious underwent the procedure on June 30, 2026, but sadly lost her baby. Her total hospital bill was N400,000, out of which N100,000 had been paid, leaving an outstanding balance of N300,000.
The matter was brought to the attention of CP Ojajuni, who intervened by interfacing with the medical doctor, Dr Babanki Samuel, and appealing to him to consider the circumstances of the woman, particularly the loss she had suffered.
Following the intervention, Dr Babanki voluntarily waived the entire N300,000 outstanding bill, allowing Precious to leave without the burden of settling the debt.
The Ogun State Police Command described the gesture as an act of humanity and compassion, commending the doctor for choosing to assist a woman already facing the emotional pain of losing her child.
The Command said the incident demonstrated that police intervention was not always about crime, arrests or confrontation, but could also provide an avenue for dialogue and peaceful resolution of difficult situations.
For Precious, what began as an unpaid hospital bill became an encounter that brought unexpected relief, as the intervention of the police opened the way for the doctor to exercise compassion.
The Ogun State Police Command expressed its appreciation to Dr Babanki for his generosity and humanity, saying his decision had lifted a significant burden from the bereaved woman.
