Ahead of the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival, the Ogun State Police Command has rolled out a massive security operation across Ijebu Ode and adjoining communities, deploying over 2,500 personnel, Armoured Personnel Carriers, surveillance teams, undercover operatives and tactical squads to forestall any security breach during the annual cultural celebration.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, who ordered the extensive deployment, said the operation was designed to guarantee a peaceful, hitch-free and crime-free festival, amid expected heavy influx of visitors, dignitaries and tourists into Ogun State.
According to the Command, the deployment covers conventional police officers and operatives drawn from the Police Mobile Force (PMF), SWAT, Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Monitoring Unit, Force Intelligence Department, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD-CBRN), Motor Traffic Department (MTD), and other specialised units.
The police said security assets including APCs, patrol vehicles, police motorcycles, rapid response squads and surveillance teams have been strategically stationed at the Ojude Oba Pavilion, highways, entry and exit points, hotels, worship centres, recreational facilities, markets, motor parks and residential areas expected to witness large gatherings during the festival.
The Command stated that the operation would focus on intelligence-led policing, traffic control, anti-crime patrols, visibility policing, crowd management and rapid response to emergencies before, during and after the event.
CP Bode Ojajuni further directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to maintain maximum vigilance through sustained patrols, strategic stop-and-search operations and constant supervision of officers deployed across their jurisdictions.
Particular attention, according to the police, has been placed on major routes including the Sagamu Interchange, Ijebu Ode–Benin Expressway, Molipa axis and adjoining communities to prevent traffic congestion, criminal activities and any disruption of public peace.
The Command also instructed officers participating in the operation to remain professional and civil in their engagements with members of the public while respecting the rights of law-abiding citizens.
It added that Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers had been mandated to deepen collaboration with traditional rulers, transport unions, community leaders, event organisers and other stakeholders to strengthen intelligence gathering and ensure seamless coordination throughout the festival period.
Warning criminal elements to steer clear of Ogun State during the celebration, the police vowed to decisively deal with anyone attempting to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the festival.
The Command appealed to residents, visitors and festival participants to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation or through its emergency lines.
DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, disclosed the arrangements in a statement issued on Thursday in Abeokuta.
