The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four additional suspects in connection with the murder of three Cameroonian nationals in the state, as security operatives intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing gang leader and other members of the criminal network.
The suspects, all males, include the alleged Chief Priest of a shrine, Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, popularly known as “Ugoebenajah,” 27; Nwabunne Bright, 27; Chinecherem Chiama, 21; and Michael Ekwunife, 38.

Police operatives also recovered two pump-action guns, one locally made Beretta pistol, one machete, assorted charms, expanded ammunition, 10 live cartridges and five live 9mm rounds during the operation carried out in Nando community, Anambra East Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrests were made on February 13, 2026, following the confession of two earlier suspects already in custody. Acting on the information, operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, mobilised to an identified shrine in Nando believed to be linked to the crime.
On arrival at the shrine, officers reportedly encountered about 30 able-bodied men gathered at the premises.
Police said the armed men opened fire upon sighting the operatives, prompting a gun duel.
During the exchange, the prime suspect, Uchenna Mmaduamaka Nicholas, a native of Oroma Etiti Anam, escaped alongside other gang members, some of whom reportedly sustained bullet wounds. One of the arrested suspects was shot in the thigh during the gun battle and was immediately taken to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The police said the arrested suspects are undergoing interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang members.
The Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents and urged members of the public to provide useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
