The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber in Asaba and recovered an AK-47 rifle, two locally made cut-to-size guns and three rounds of live ammunition.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, following an intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Ughelli.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Sunday Nimel, was arrested on October 7, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m., through an operation conducted in collaboration with local vigilantes.
The police alleged that Nimel was a member of an armed robbery syndicate responsible for several residential robbery operations in Asaba and its environs.
The statement said information obtained from the suspect during interrogation led operatives to a hideout near Okpanam City Gate, where the firearms and ammunition were recovered.
“During interrogation, the suspect made useful statements that led operatives to a hideout near Okpanam City Gate, where one (1) AK-47 rifle, three (3) rounds of live ammunition and two (2) locally made cut-to-size guns were recovered,” the statement said.

The command added that investigations were ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for the operation and reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and dismantling criminal networks across the state.
Erale urged residents to continue providing credible information to the police, assuring them of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
