Troops under Operation Enduring Peace have stepped up security operations across the Jos metropolis to contain rising tensions and restore calm in Plateau State.
The intensified efforts, which include stop and search operations and targeted patrols, are part of a broader strategy to prevent further escalation of violence and ensure the safety of residents.
In a statement issued to newsmen, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, said the proactive measures have already recorded significant success.
He disclosed that troops arrested two suspects during coordinated operations and recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a pump action gun, as well as a cutlass.

According to him, the arrests and recoveries were made in key flashpoints and transit routes, including Jos North and Jos South, particularly around Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-cost housing estate.

Oteh further revealed that troops responded swiftly to a distress call over sporadic gunfire in the Yelwa Cattle Market area of Shendam.
He noted that upon arrival, the attackers fled into surrounding bushes under pressure from advancing troops.
A subsequent search operation led to the discovery of two residents who had sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.
The victims were immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment, while security forces intensified efforts to track down the fleeing gunmen.
The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a dominant security presence across Plateau State, assuring that operations will continue until lasting peace is restored in all affected communities.
