With growing political conversations ahead of the 2027 elections, the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, has thrown his weight firmly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that the President is demonstrating “uncommon commitment” toward solving Nigeria’s numerous challenges.
Speaking during an Eid-el-Kabir gathering with leaders and members of the Muslim community at his residence in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Umahi urged Nigerians, particularly Muslim faithful, to pray for Tinubu’s health, strength and re-election success.
The minister said President Tinubu remains focused on moving the country forward despite mounting economic and governance challenges, insisting that critics of the administration have failed to provide practical alternatives to ongoing reforms.
“I do not see any other person with the kind of commitment he has towards the daunting challenges we have in Nigeria,” Umahi said. “Nobody has been able to come out and say, ‘This is the best way to go about it.’ So, let us pray for the President.”
Umahi described the Eid gathering as a reflection of the religious harmony and peaceful coexistence that have long defined Ebonyi State, noting that Muslims of Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba extraction have consistently participated in the annual Sallah celebration hosted by his family.
According to him, the celebration often brings together both Muslim faithful and members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), stressing that Nigerians worship one God despite religious differences.
The Minister disclosed that gifts including cash, bags of rice and groundnut oil were distributed to Muslim families to support their Sallah celebrations.
“So today, I invited them to receive gifts: cash, rice, and groundnut oil so they can buy their rams and celebrate,” he stated.
Umahi also called for prayers for Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, asking God to strengthen them to continue delivering democratic dividends to the people.
He further extended Eid-el-Kabir greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and specially wished President Tinubu a happy Sallah celebration.
The statement was signed by Francis Nwaze, FIPMD, Senior Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of Works (Media).
