Governor Francis Nwifuru has endorsed some incumbent federal lawmakers for return tickets ahead of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, while postponing decisions in constituencies affected by internal party disagreements.
The governor, who is also the leader of the APC in Ebonyi State, announced the decisions during separate stakeholder consultations held across the three senatorial districts of the state.
At the APC State Secretariat in Abakaliki during a meeting with stakeholders from Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Nwifuru ratified the return ticket of Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi for a second term.
According to the governor, the endorsement followed broad consultations among party leaders and stakeholders, noting that there was no opposition to the senator’s aspiration within the district.
“There is no dissenting voice against his aspiration; therefore, the party will support his return in the interest of continuity and effective representation,” Nwifuru stated.
In Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, the governor also endorsed Senator Kenneth Eze for another term in the Senate.
Also endorsed were Hon. Chinedu Ogah for a third term in the House of Representatives and Hon. Joseph Nwobashi for a second term.
However, decisions regarding some other constituencies were deferred to allow further consultations and consensus building among stakeholders, especially in areas experiencing heightened political tension within the party.
In the Abakaliki/Izzi and Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituencies, represented by Hon. Emmanuel Uguru and Hon. Eze Nwachukwu respectively, the governor directed that deliberations be stepped down until Friday.
A similar approach was adopted in Ebonyi South Senatorial District where Senator Anthony Ani is seeking re-election amid growing internal contestation.
Political activities in the district have intensified following the declaration of interest by Austin Umahi, younger brother of Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, who has openly criticised the performance of the incumbent senator.
In Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, the governor withheld endorsement for Hon. Kama Nkemkanma following reported opposition to his return bid.
The process was equally deferred in Afikpo/Edda Federal
