The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has stepped up security preparations for Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary, deploying personnel and operational resources across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to protect critical national assets and vulnerable locations.
The deployment is aimed at preventing vandalism, sabotage and other criminal activities during the celebrations, while strengthening the Corps’ capacity to respond quickly to security threats, the NSCDC said.
Commandant General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, gave the assurance on Wednesday, saying the Corps was fully prepared to protect lives, public facilities and critical infrastructure throughout the anniversary period.
Audi said special attention would be given to strategic installations, public facilities and other locations considered vulnerable to attacks or criminal activity.
“The NSCDC remains fully prepared to discharge its statutory responsibilities and contribute effectively to the maintenance of peace and national security.”
He added that the Corps would maintain close cooperation with sister security agencies, relevant stakeholders and communities to improve intelligence gathering and ensure faster response to emerging threats.

The NSCDC chief also urged Nigerians to play their part in the keeping the celebrations peaceful by remaining vigilant and law-abiding and promptly reporting suspicious persons or activities to the appropriate authorities.
He called on citizens to use the anniversary to reflect on the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers and renew their commitment to national unity, patriotism and peaceful coexistence.
Audi, on behalf of the officers and personnel of the Corps, congratulated the Federal Government and Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on the 66th Independence Anniversary, while wishing the country a peaceful and prosperous celebration.
