The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has inducted 73 of its Public Relations Officers into the professional ranks of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), as part of efforts to strengthen strategic communication and enhance professionalism within the Service.
According to the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, the officers were inducted after successfully completing the NIPR Certification and Training Programme held at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja.
Representing the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Visa and Residency, Florence U. Nwanneka, urged the newly inducted officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
She charged them to proactively manage public perception, counter misinformation, respond effectively during crises, and promote public confidence in the Service as it advances technology-driven reforms in migration management and border governance.
Nwanneka also commended the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations for partnering with the Service to deepen professionalism and improve public relations practice within the NIS.
President and Chairman of Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Ike Neliaku, formally inducted the participants into the Institute and urged them to remain committed to ethics, professionalism and continuous learning as core principles of the public relations profession.
In his closing remarks, Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, said the programme reflected the Comptroller-General’s commitment to capacity building and standardising public relations practice across the Service.
He thanked the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, facilitators and other stakeholders for contributing to the success of the programme, while urging the officers to apply the knowledge acquired to strengthen public engagement and effectively project the Service’s mandates.
The Service said the successful completion of the training and induction underscores its commitment to continuous professional development through strategic partnerships and specialised training aimed at enhancing migration management and border governance.
