AIG Jimoh, Customs Strengthen Alliance Against Trans-Border Crimes Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Headquarters, Lagos, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service to tackle trans-border crimes, smuggling and other security threats, particularly as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Afolayan Gbenga, disclosed this in a statement on Friday following a courtesy visit by AIG Jimoh to the Zonal Coordinator, Nigeria Customs Service, Zone A, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs (ACG) Mohammed Babandede, at the Zone A Headquarters in Lagos.
According to the statement, the visit was aimed at strengthening the existing operational synergy between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Customs Service, with a focus on enhancing intelligence sharing and coordinated operations against trans-border crimes and other criminal activities.
Speaking during the visit, AIG Jimoh, who was accompanied by members of his management team, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and highlighted the strategic importance of Lagos and Ogun states as border states with extensive land and maritime boundaries.
He stressed the need for sustained collaboration to effectively combat the smuggling of arms and ammunition, illicit drugs, prohibited goods and other security threats.
The AIG noted that stronger cooperation between both agencies would play a critical role in safeguarding national security and preserving the country’s territorial integrity, especially in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
In his response, ACG Mohammed Babandede commended AIG Jimoh for his exemplary leadership, humility and dedication to national service. He noted that the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone A, has continued to enjoy a productive and result-oriented working relationship with the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Headquarters.
Babandede expressed confidence that the partnership would be further strengthened through enhanced intelligence sharing, coordinated enforcement operations and sustained efforts to curb trans-border crimes.
The meeting also provided senior officers of both agencies the opportunity to deliberate on key security issues, including intelligence sharing, border security, operational coordination and other strategic matters of mutual interest.
The Police said the engagement underscores the commitment of Zone 2 Headquarters to fostering stronger inter-agency collaboration and strategic partnerships with sister security agencies to enhance public safety, strengthen internal security and ensure a safer Nigeria.
