Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Alex Oyibo Ebbah has emerged as one of the most accomplished senior officers in the Nigeria Police Force, following his appointment as DCP, Administration, Research and Planning, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Official police records made available to Newsdiaryonline show that Ebbah brings over three decades of operational, investigative and administrative experience to his new role at the apex of police administration.
Born on 24 March 1969 in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, DCP Ebbah joined the Nigeria Police Force through the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, in 1992, beginning a career that has spanned intelligence, financial crimes, internal discipline and strategic planning.
His early policing years were spent in Abia State Command, where he handled investigations, patrol duties and field operations, gaining what he later described as “the grounding every serious detective needs.”

Between 1998 and 2004, he served in Rivers State Command, a posting that exposed him to complex security challenges and strengthened his command and investigative competence.
Ebbah later joined the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he played key roles in financial crime investigations and surveillance operations during Nigeria’s formative years of anti-corruption enforcement.
Reflecting on that period, he was quoted as saying, “Financial crimes are not just economic issues; they directly affect national stability and public trust.”

His career also includes sensitive assignments at the Force Secretary’s Office, the IGP Monitoring Unit, and the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, where he coordinated administrative directives across FCID annexes nationwide.
In 2024, he was posted to the FCT Command as ACP, X-Squad, where he was responsible for internal accountability, policing police conduct, and enforcing professionalism in line with directives of the Inspector-General of Police.
Since his elevation to DCP in December 2025, Ebbah has been charged with policy support, institutional planning and strategic research aimed at improving policing outcomes across the country.

A senior police source at Force Headquarters described him as “a disciplined, ethical officer whose career reflects consistency, competence and quiet professionalism.”
DCP Ebbah holds degrees in Government and Public Administration and Mass Communication, is an alumnus of NIPSS, Kuru, and has received advanced international training, including with the FBI and eBay Law Enforcement Programme.
