AWKA – As part of the activities commemorating the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, joined Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and other top security and government officials for a special church service on Saturday, January 11, 2026.
The service, held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral in Awka, was a solemn highlight of the remembrance period, dedicated to honoring the bravery, patriotism, and ultimate sacrifices of the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The event provided a dedicated time for prayer and reflection on the sacrifices made by military personnel to defend Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty. Attendees gathered to pay their respects to those who laid down their lives in the line of duty while reaffirming their commitment to the nation’s peace and stability.
Speaking on the importance of the service, CP Ikioye Orutugu highlighted the necessity of inter-agency collaboration and strong community partnerships. He noted that safeguarding lives and property in Anambra State is a collective responsibility that requires the seamless coordination of all security arms and the support of the public.
The service was well-attended by senior security personnel from various services, government functionaries, and religious leaders. The gathering underscored a widespread appreciation for the Armed Forces and their vital contributions to national development and internal security.
The event concluded with prayers for the families of the fallen and for the continued success of the nation’s security architecture in its mission to protect the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
