ABUJA – As part of the activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Federal Government has organized a special humanitarian program to celebrate the families of fallen, serving, and retired military personnel.
The event, titled “Humanitarian Family and Community Day,” took place on Saturday at the Mogadishu Cantonment in Abuja. Organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence, the program served as a platform for national appreciation and solidarity with military households.
Addressing the participants, the wife of the Minister of Defence, Mrs. Oghogho Lilian Christopher Musa, emphasized that the initiative was designed to show tangible love and care for those who support Nigeria’s defenders.
“This platform allows us to express our deep appreciation and solidarity with the families of our fallen heroes and those currently serving,” she stated. Mrs. Musa noted that while soldiers serve on the front lines, their families bear a unique burden that deserves collective national recognition and support.
In her remarks, the wife of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Mrs. Hassana Pheelangwah, spoke on the resilience required of military families. She highlighted that behind every courageous soldier is a spouse and children who navigate the difficulties of absence and uncertainty with remarkable strength.
“We are here to celebrate the sacrifices, courage, and dedication of not just the soldiers, but their families who nurture and wait patiently under challenging circumstances,” Pheelangwah added.
The event was filled with a variety of recreational activities, including games, parades, and social engagements. These activities were aimed at strengthening the bonds within the military community and providing a space for relaxation and mutual support.
The 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities continue to highlight the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare of the veterans and the families of those who paid the ultimate price for the nation’s peace.
