The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has intensified efforts to reposition Nigerian Army Command Schools nationwide, with major interventions targeted at improving infrastructure, teaching facilities and the overall learning environment.
The latest development followed an assessment tour of Command Secondary Schools in Benue and Katsina states by the Acting Corps Commander Education, Brig. Gen. Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed.
The tour, which began on September 24, 2026, was aimed at assessing the condition of infrastructure, teaching and learning facilities, administration and other requirements critical to effective education delivery across the schools.

At Command Secondary School, Makurdi, Ahmed inspected classrooms, students’ hostels, the dining hall, library and projects executed under the COAS intervention initiative.
He also held engagements with members of staff, students and key stakeholders, including representatives of the Benue State Ministry of Education, the Parent-Teacher Association and the Old Students’ Association.
The Army said the assessment showed notable improvements in the school’s infrastructure and learning environment following the intervention by the COAS.

Ahmed commended Shaibu for his sustained commitment to repositioning Nigerian Army schools and urged school authorities to ensure proper maintenance, security and effective utilisation of the upgraded facilities.
He said the measures were necessary to preserve the investments and ensure that the improved facilities continued to support quality education.
As part of the Makurdi visit, the Acting Corps Commander Education and his delegation also paid a courtesy call on elder statesman, Alhaji Shaibu Dahiru, in recognition of his longstanding support for the development of Command Secondary School, Makurdi.

The engagement featured prayers for the Chief of Army Staff, presentation of a souvenir and a group photograph.
The assessment team subsequently visited Command Secondary School Boys, Faskari, and Command Secondary School Girls, Barkiya, both in Katsina State.
The Commandants of the two schools briefed Ahmed on their academic activities, administration, infrastructure and areas requiring further intervention.
Ahmed thereafter inspected facilities at the schools and interacted with personnel as part of the on-the-spot assessment.

The Nigerian Army said the exercise was part of the Education Corps’ efforts to consolidate ongoing reforms and ensure that investments in Army schools translate into improved teaching, learning and academic standards.
It added that findings from the assessment would guide further interventions to address identified gaps and strengthen educational delivery across Command Schools.

The ongoing interventions, according to the Army, reflect the COAS’ commitment to building a modern, functional and sustainable education system capable of promoting quality education, character development and academic excellence among students.

The Army said the ultimate objective was to provide students in its schools with a conducive environment for learning while strengthening the standard of education across its Command Schools.
