The Lagos State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of Tijani Fatai as the 42nd Commissioner of Police in the state.
Fatai takes over from Olohundare Jimoh, who served as the 41st Commissioner of Police from February 18, 2025, to March 26, 2026.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi.
According to the statement, “CP Tijani Fatai has officially assumed duty as the 42nd Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command.”
The statement noted that the new CP hails from Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State and attended Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Olabisi Onabanjo University.
Fatai enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on June 10, 1994.
He has held several strategic positions, including Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port, Port Harcourt; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Maritime Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos; and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, Zone 2 Command, Onikan.
The statement added that he also served as Area Commander in Ilaro, Maiduguri Metro, and Surulere, as well as Squadron Commander in the Police Mobile Force formations in Benin and Akure.
He also served as Officer-in-Charge of the Homicide Section, SCID Lagos, and as Divisional Police Officer in Ogere, Ijanikin, and Alakara.
The new CP is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
His appointment, the Command said, reflects his track record of professionalism, leadership, and dedication to duty.
Fatai assured residents and stakeholders of his commitment to consolidating ongoing reforms and strengthening security.
“He reassures stakeholders and the general public of his commitment to consolidating ongoing reforms, enhancing internal security, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, community partnerships, and advancing the mandate of protecting lives and property,” the statement said.
The Command called for continued public support to enhance professionalism and service delivery.
