Defence Minister Commissions Armoured Fleet in Sokoto, Orders Troops to Crush Insecurity

The Federal Government has reinforced its push against insecurity with the commissioning of a newly acquired fleet of armoured vehicles and security equipment in Sokoto State, as the Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency General Christopher Gwabin Musa(Rtd) charged security personnel to intensify operations and decisively defeat criminal elements.
The directive came as General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), commissioned the security assets procured by the Sokoto State Government on Wednesday in the state capital. In a statement signed by Captain Moses Yare, Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Defence, the Minister described the acquisition as a strategic investment that would strengthen Nigeria’s internal security architecture and enhance ongoing efforts to restore peace across the region.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Defence Minister commended the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, for what he described as proactive leadership and unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. He noted that the state’s significant investment in security demonstrates that peace remains the foundation for sustainable development.
General Musa said the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, stressing that the Federal Government remains committed to safeguarding lives, restoring peace, and creating an environment that supports economic growth. He added that addressing contemporary security challenges requires stronger collaboration among the federal, state and local governments.
According to the Minister, the newly deployed armoured vehicles and security equipment will significantly improve the operational effectiveness of security forces by providing enhanced force protection, superior mobility and rapid response capabilities.
He, however, stressed that sophisticated equipment alone cannot guarantee success without professionalism, discipline and effective inter-agency cooperation.
General Musa also applauded the Sokoto State Government for complementing military operations with community-based intelligence initiatives, describing public trust and timely intelligence as critical pillars of effective security.
The Defence Minister further urged troops deployed to the frontline to deploy the newly acquired assets responsibly, maintain the highest standards of discipline, and operate strictly within the confines of the rule of law.
He charged them to justify the huge public investment through selfless service, integrity and decisive victories against criminal elements.
General Musa reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to leveraging advanced technology and improved personnel welfare in building a safer and more prosperous nation where citizens can live and pursue their livelihoods without fear.
