A Delta State-based activist and grassroots mobiliser, Comrade Victor Ojei, popularly known as Wong Box Nigeria, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, citing loss of internal democracy and departure from the party’s founding ideals.
Ojei announced his decision in a resignation letter dated and addressed to the Chairman, PDP Ward 5, Ubulu-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, Delta State.
In the letter, which he described as written “with a heavy heart but a clear conscience,” the activist said his resignation takes immediate effect following deep reflection and consultations with his supporters.
According to him, he joined the PDP with the expectation that the party would remain a platform for justice, equity, youth inclusion and people-oriented governance.
“As an activist and grassroots mobiliser popularly known as Wong Box Nigeria, my loyalty has always been to the people, not to comfort, not to silence, and not to political convenience,” Ojei stated.
He, however, expressed concern that the party has drifted from its original ideals, noting what he described as the marginalisation of youths and grassroots members.
“The voices of the masses, especially the youths and grassroots comrades who risk everything for the struggle, are increasingly ignored,” he said, adding that internal democracy within the party has weakened.
Ojei further alleged that genuine dissent is discouraged and that the aspirations of ordinary people are often sacrificed for elite interests.
“I cannot, in good conscience, continue to belong to a system that no longer aligns with my principles, my activism, and my unwavering commitment to social justice and accountability,” he declared.
He was emphatic that his decision was neither an act of bitterness nor betrayal.
“This decision is not born out of bitterness, but out of conviction. It is not an act of betrayal, but an act of truth,” the activist said.
Ojei stressed that his resignation does not signal an end to his activism, insisting that he remains committed to speaking truth to power and standing with the oppressed.
He concluded by affirming loyalty to grassroots movements and thanked party members he worked with, while copying the resignation letter to the Chairman of PDP Delta State Chapter, Prof. Sylvester Monye, and the media.
