The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta has called on the party’s national leadership to resolve the current parallel State Working Committees (SWC) which emerged from the recently held state congress in Delta.
Our correspondent gathered that two lists of Delta State Working Committee (SWC) of ADC are currently set before the party’s national body in Abuja for its intervention and ratification.
Briefing newsmen on Friday in Asaba, the Mr James Akporaro led group, alleged that the first list currently being paraded as the state executive committee list was concocted by certain individuals in the party.
He noted that the harmonised and authentic list which emanated from the 12-man led congress committee held on Saturday, April 11 through Sunday, April 12, 2026, elected him,(Akporaro) as state chairman by consensus.
He, however, alleged that the first list which claimed that certain persons emerged as the state chairman and executives of the Party was concocted by a part of a bloc out of the four blocs that formed the party in the state.
According to Akporaro, the two lists are before the national body of the party in Abuja for its intervention and decision.
“A list from part of one bloc out of the four blocs that formed the party in Delta state was earlier sent to Abuja.
“We have submitted our list from the 12- wisemen which was set up to conduct the congress also to the national.
Akporaro expressed confidence that as the State ADC Chairman elect, that he would be sworn-in as state party chairman at the expiration of the tenure of the current executive in May 2026.
“The position of the national is that the authentic list is the one done by the four blocs.
So, what we have at the national level is a list that contains the contributions from the four blocs and the national has acknowledged that list.
“So, as we speak, from that process, I James Akporaro emerged as state chairman elect of the party in Delta and will be sworn-in when the current executive tenure ends in May.
“The list that went before is a list from a part of a bloc. They compiled their names without recourse to the other three blocs and went ahead to submit to the national.
“However, the principal members of the party in Abuja said they were aware of what is happening in Delta and assured us that we have no reason to fear but that we have to submit our list with evidence,”Akporaro said.
He noted that with ADC, the game of going behind to submit a list would no longer work, adding,”it is no longer business as usual. If ADC is the only opposition party in the country, it must start doing things right”.
Akporaro insists that there are no factions in the party in Delta but for the interference of certain overzealous individuals.
Other chieftain of the party present at the event including Chief Chris Biose; elder Delly Ajufor; Lady Chinwe Ejidoh, Mr Okpara Okwusi; and Preye Peremene, affirmed that the state congress was credible and peaceful.
Speaking, Lady Ejidoh said that the congress was successful and that the state leadership was painstakingly elected by consensus in spite of the noticed hitches.
She, however, expressed confidence that the national would resolve all the issues in no distance time.
Also, Chief Biose, said that he has been in the struggle for a better Nigeria since 1979, adding that a new Nigeria is possible.
“Our interest in this process is that Delta state and Nigeria should have a new lease of life for the next generation.
“We support every process that arises by due process, so, the process at arriving at consensus whereby the four blocs met and agreed to produce this state executive is worthy of commendation,” he said.
Biose pledged their support for the state ADC 12-man committee that employed consensus to produce the harmonised list of state executive committees.
