Delta CP Cracks Down on Extortion, Demands Professional Conduct During Effurun Tour

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has issued a stern warning against extortion, incivility and other forms of misconduct among officers, declaring that professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights remain non-negotiable in policing across the state.
According to a statement signed by SP. Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Asaba, the warning came on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, as the Police Commissioner continued his familiarisation tour of Police formations with a visit to the Effurun Area Command, where he also engaged officers, stakeholders and community leaders on strengthening security and public trust.
The tour commenced with a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty Dr. Emmanuel Sideso, Abe I, JP, OON, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, during which CP Yemi Oyeniyi commended the monarch for his sustained commitment to peace, security and community development.
The Commissioner acknowledged the critical role traditional institutions play in supporting law enforcement efforts and appealed for sustained collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in intelligence gathering and promoting peaceful coexistence across communities.
Responding, the Ovie of Uvwie welcomed the Commissioner of Police and his entourage and reaffirmed the commitment of the Uvwie Kingdom to supporting the Nigeria Police Force. The monarch also urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies through the provision of timely and credible information.
Addressing officers and men of the Effurun Area Command alongside stakeholders, CP Yemi Oyeniyi charged personnel to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and integrity in carrying out their responsibilities.
He warned that extortion, incivility towards members of the public and all forms of unprofessional conduct would not be tolerated under his leadership, stressing that the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights must remain central to policing operations.
The Police Commissioner further urged officers to embrace intelligence-led policing, maintain ethical standards and prioritise quality service delivery, noting that public trust remains the foundation for effective policing.
