The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in the Delta State Command, Adejobi Olumuyiwa, has received commendation for his role in intensifying security operations and curbing criminal activities across parts of the state.
The commendation came from civil society activist Elvis Ekrakpoariemu Ogbevire, who credited the senior police officer with revitalising the command’s operations unit and leading targeted interventions in crime-prone communities, particularly in Ughelli and surrounding areas.
According to Ogbevire, the operations unit under Adejobi has executed a series of coordinated raids against suspected cult groups and criminal gangs.
He noted that one of the operations followed a cult-related killing in Ughelli, resulting in the arrest of several suspects believed to be key actors in the violence.
He further stated that the sustained operations have helped restore calm in affected communities, significantly reducing incidents of violent clashes and improving overall public safety.

The activist also highlighted efforts by the DCP to instil discipline within the command, stressing that personnel have been encouraged to carry out their duties professionally and without bias.
Ogbevire added that the unit’s swift response to security threats has played a crucial role in preventing escalation, especially in areas previously troubled by rival group conflicts.
Clarifying operational responsibilities, he explained that while the operations unit handles arrests and field actions, issues relating to investigation and bail remain within the purview of divisional police officers and area commanders.
On allegations of extortion linked to some police formations, the activist disclosed that Adejobi had reportedly ordered investigations into the claims, with refunds being processed for victims where misconduct is established.
He called for balanced advocacy in addressing security concerns, urging stakeholders, including activist Israel Joe, to hold appropriate authorities accountable while also recognising officers making genuine efforts to improve security.
Ogbevire reaffirmed his support for ongoing police operations in the state, describing them as critical to combating crime and safeguarding lives and property.
