Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepening democratic governance through stronger institutions, transparency, accountability, and broader citizen participation, declaring that sustainable democracy can only thrive where governance remains inclusive and people-driven.
In his Democracy Day message, Governor Nwifuru said the celebration provides an opportunity not only to honour Nigeria’s democratic journey but also to reflect on the responsibility of leadership and the role of citizens in sustaining constitutional governance.
“Today commemorates Democracy Day, and I join millions of compatriots across our great nation in celebrating the triumph of the democratic spirit and the resilience of a people who have consistently chosen freedom, justice, popular participation, and constitutional governance over tyranny and oppression,” he said.
The governor stressed that democracy reaches its full potential when institutions are strengthened and citizens are empowered to make meaningful contributions to governance.

He noted that his administration has continued to sustain open engagement with stakeholders across political, religious, traditional and professional groups, insisting that governance must remain inclusive and responsive to the aspirations of every segment of society.
According to him, Ebonyi State has become a reflection of what visionary leadership, strategic planning and collective commitment can deliver, adding that the state’s progress has been driven by a strong partnership between government and the people.
“Democracy Day offers another opportunity to reflect on the covenant between government and the governed. It is a moment to assess our stewardship and renew our commitment to delivering purposeful leadership that positively impacts the lives of our people under the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda,” he added.
Governor Nwifuru also expressed appreciation to God and the people of Ebonyi State for the confidence placed in his administration, saying the trust has continued to inspire transformative policies and programmes that are breaking historical barriers in governance and development.
Highlighting key areas of intervention, the governor pointed to investments in education, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship development, scholarship schemes, skills acquisition and capacity-building initiatives designed to prepare citizens for emerging opportunities in a rapidly changing world.
He further reaffirmed his administration’s determination to sustain policies that improve living standards and create greater opportunities for the people of the state.
Governor Nwifuru also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to democratic governance and national development.
“I salute President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, one of the foremost champions of democratic restoration, who stood firmly with other patriots in the trenches of the pro-democracy struggle during some of the most difficult periods in our national history,” Nwifuru stated.
He called on Nigerians to continue supporting democratic institutions and to remain committed to the values of unity, participation and responsible citizenship for national progress.
The governor assured that his administration would continue to pursue policies anchored on accountability, development and inclusive governance in line with the aspirations of the people of Ebonyi State.
