Nnenna Mba- Abakaliki
Thousands of youths from across the 13 Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State on Wednesday declared support for Governor Francis Nwifuru ahead of the 2027 general election, raising ₦40 million for his potential All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest forms.
The youths, who converged on Abakaliki after a solidarity march, said the move was driven by satisfaction with the administration’s performance, particularly in youth inclusion, infrastructure, and grassroots development.
National President of the FON Movement, Comrade Chinedu Emerike, described the gesture as a reflection of collective resolve among young people in the state.
“This contribution is a symbol of our unity and belief in continuity. We have seen a leadership that recognises and empowers youths, and we are determined to sustain it,” he said.

Also speaking, National Secretary of the FON Youth Movement, Barr. Chika Igboke, said the gathering was both a show of appreciation and a political statement.
“We are not just endorsing a leader; we are affirming a direction. Ebonyi youths have chosen to stand by a government that has given them a voice,” he stated.
Youth representatives from different senatorial zones cited tangible achievements as reasons for their endorsement. Nnachi Okoro highlighted ongoing infrastructure and rural projects, noting that “the impact of governance is visible across communities.”
From Ebonyi North, Felix Okemini described the mobilisation as unprecedented.

“This is a united front cutting across wards and local governments. It shows clearly that the people are aligned on continuity,” he said.
Responding, APC State Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, commended the youths but noted that the governor had not formally declared his intention to seek re-election.
“We appreciate this show of support. However, the governor is yet to make any official declaration. The party will follow due process at the appropriate time,” he said, adding that the funds would be handled in line with party guidelines.

In a related remark, Commissioner I of the Ebonyi State Local Government Service Commission, Arc. Augustine Nwechara, said the event reflected growing political consciousness among youths and increasing mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
