Ex-driver to die by hanging for killing octogenarian couple in Abuja – FCT Police

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command says it has secured the conviction of Jonathan Marcus, a former driver to an elderly couple, over the murder of 80-year-old Adebola Ezekiel and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel, at their residence in Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.
The command disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, noting that the FCT High Court sentenced the convict to death by hanging after finding him guilty of the double murder.
According to the police, the couple were murdered at their home in Zone D, Apo Legislative Quarters, on April 1, 2024.
The statement said an extensive investigation led to the arrest of Marcus, who fled to Obajana in Kogi State after the incident.
The police said the suspect, who had previously worked as the victims’ driver, was tracked, arrested and brought back to Abuja for investigation.
According to the statement, the suspect confessed during interrogation to gaining access to the couple’s residence at about 11 p.m. on the day of the incident before killing them.
The command added that investigations revealed Marcus had earlier been dismissed from his job as the couple’s driver following repeated disagreements with his employers.
The police said the suspect was subsequently arraigned before the FCT High Court, where the prosecution presented evidence linking him to the crime.
It stated that after reviewing the evidence and hearing arguments from both parties, Justice M. S. Idris held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The court consequently convicted Marcus and sentenced him to death by hanging for the murder of Adebola and Abiodun Ezekiel.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory and ensuring that criminal offenders are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
