ABUJA – The Federal Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the welfare of the Nigerian military and their families, emphasizing that the well-being of personnel is foundational to national security and stability.
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), made this declaration on Sunday during an inter-denominational church service in Abuja. The event was held as a key activity marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
General Musa stated that the government would continue to prioritize the morale and welfare of serving personnel to ensure they can effectively carry out their constitutional mandate to defend the nation.
He stressed that the sacrifices made by Nigerian troops, particularly those who have paid the supreme price in active service, must never be taken for granted. “We honour with deep reverence the brave men and women who pay the supreme price in service to our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the Minister said.
The Minister commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his consistent efforts to improve the operational capacity and living standards of the armed forces. He urged all Nigerians to stand in solidarity with the government and security agencies to overcome prevailing challenges, including terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping, noting that unity is essential for victory.
The sermon, delivered by the Most Reverend Uche Okafor of the Presbyterian Church, Abuja, was centered on the theme “Gratitude, Encouragement, and Spiritual Security.”

Reverend Okafor praised the military for their courage in confronting dangers that others flee from. He encouraged personnel to remain steadfast, noting that their service to the nation is also a service to God. Furthermore, the cleric urged the military to maintain neutrality, professionalism, and patriotism as the 2027 general elections approach.
The solemn service was attended by high-ranking government officials, service chiefs, members of the National Assembly, diplomats, and senior civil servants, reflecting a unified national appreciation for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
