FG to Upgrade Nigerian Army University Biu, Establish Military Performance Centre

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to repositioning the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) as a leading institution for specialised military and civilian training, with plans to undertake a major infrastructural upgrade, including the establishment of Africa’s first Centre for Military Performance Management.
According to a statement on Saturday by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Defence, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), gave the assurance while receiving members of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Army University Biu at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
General Musa said the Federal Government would continue to provide strategic support to the university, describing it as a critical institution for developing the technical and operational capacity needed by security personnel to tackle Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
He disclosed that the Ministry of Defence would work closely with the Armed Forces of Nigeria to maximise the 30 per cent admission quota reserved for military personnel in order to bridge specialised skills gaps across the country’s security sector.
”As the Federal Government pushes for a highly skilled workforce in this digital era, we must encourage members of the Armed Forces, ministry staff, and the general public to leverage the cutting-edge technological and academic solutions available at NAUB,” the minister said.
He also announced that the Ministry and the university’s Governing Council had agreed to urgently address the institution’s infrastructural needs.
Among the proposed projects is the construction of a state-of-the-art Centre for Military Performance Management, which the ministry said would be the first of its kind in Africa.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Pioneer Pro-Chancellor of the university, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd), commended the minister for what he described as his strategic leadership and commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture.
Buratai also lauded General Musa’s dedication to the Armed Forces and national development, while reaffirming the university’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, research and national service.
