A fire outbreak at the Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Apapa, Lagos, has damaged some office property and equipment, with a committee set up to determine what caused the incident.
The fire was detected at about 10:35am on Monday, September 28, with thick smoke reportedly coming from the newly constructed conference hall.
Customs officers on duty immediately activated emergency response procedures and began efforts to contain the fire before personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at about 11:25am and brought the blaze under control.

No death or injury was recorded in the incident, the Command said.
In a statement on Tuesday, September 29, Nwosu Clarine Chibunna, Deputy Superintendent of Customs and Acting Customs Public Relations Officer, said a preliminary assessment showed that some property and office equipment within the Command premises had been affected.

She said a committee had been constituted to investigate both the immediate and remote causes of the fire and make recommendations to prevent a recurrence.
Despite the incident, the Command said its core operations remained unaffected and continued normally.

It also assured personnel, stakeholders and members of the public that measures would be taken to strengthen the protection of its infrastructure and personnel.

The Command commended its officers and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service for their response, while reaffirming its commitment to safety, security and operational efficiency across its formations.
