Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, have rescued a kidnap victim, identified as Prince Micheal Akao, and neutralised three kidnappers during an intelligence-led operation in Sasaro Forest, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
The operation was conducted on Sunday, October 11, 2026, by troops of the 195 Battalion (Rear), following a tip-off on the activities of the criminal elements in the forest.
During the operation, the troops rescued the victim and recovered three locally fabricated guns, nine cartridges and other sundry items.

The rescued victim was immediately evacuated to a hospital for medical attention and is responding to treatment.
The recovered items have been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), while the corpses of the neutralised kidnappers are in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The Nigerian Army said it would sustain intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with other security agencies to dismantle kidnapping networks, deny criminals safe havens and protect communities.

The operation also underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to strengthen security, safeguard citizens and prevent criminal elements from exploiting forested areas to threaten lives and public safety.
