The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is exploring a media partnership with China’s state news agency, Xinhua, to strengthen public communication, improve professional capacity and promote international cooperation in the fight against corruption.
The proposal was discussed when the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, received a delegation of Xinhua media professionals at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, announced in a press statement dated Saturday, October 24, 2026, by J. Okor Odey, Head, Media and Public Communications, ICPC, focused on news sharing, information exchange and opportunities for collaboration between the two organisations.
The Xinhua delegation was led by Mr. Gui Tao, Deputy President of Xinhua News Agency for Africa, who stressed the importance of accurate and balanced reporting in strengthening international cooperation.
Gui Tao expressed the agency’s readiness to work with the ICPC to give wider international coverage to the Commission’s anti-corruption activities. He noted that corruption often crosses national borders, making cooperation among media organisations and other institutions important in addressing the problem.
Responding, Aliyu described the proposed partnership as an opportunity to strengthen Nigeria-China relations and support efforts to tackle corruption, particularly illicit financial flows and the cross-border movement of proceeds of crime.
He also highlighted the role of the media in shaping public understanding and encouraging citizens to take a stand against corruption.
The ICPC chairman called on Xinhua to support the Commission’s media and public communication activities through technology transfer and professional training for staff of its Media and Public Communication Unit.

According to him, the support would help improve the quality and reach of the Commission’s communication efforts while increasing international awareness of its work.
Gui Tao reaffirmed Xinhua’s willingness to provide technical support and training opportunities for ICPC media personnel. He also said the agency’s global network could help showcase Nigeria’s anti-corruption reforms and reported achievements to an international audience.
The proposed collaboration is expected to provide a platform for stronger media cooperation between Nigeria and China, particularly in information exchange, professional development and public accountability.
However, the statement did not specify a timeline for implementing the proposed partnership or provide details of a formal agreement between the two organisations.
