The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, on Wednesday disbursed a total of N2.43 billion to families of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.
The cheques were presented to 1,075 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of officers who died in active service, covering policy years from 2018 to 2026.

Speaking at the ceremony, the IGP described the event as a solemn recognition of the sacrifices made by fallen officers, noting that the payments also included long-standing insurance claims that had remained unsettled for years.
He said, “This ceremony represents more than the presentation of financial benefits; it is a solemn acknowledgement of the courage, commitment, and ultimate sacrifices made by officers who served this nation with honour.”

Disu reaffirmed that the welfare of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force remains a top priority under his leadership, stressing that the Force must demonstrate compassion to families of personnel who paid the ultimate price.
Addressing the families, he expressed condolences, noting that the deceased officers were not only security personnel but also breadwinners and pillars of their communities.

The police boss pledged reforms aimed at improving efficiency in processing welfare benefits, including the deployment of technology to enhance transparency and accountability.
He also commended the Force Insurance Unit and partnering insurance firms for facilitating the payments and assured that outstanding claims would be settled promptly.
