The Imo State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Office has successfully conducted a voter sensitization and civic education campaign at Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, as part of efforts to promote active citizenship and deepen democratic participation among young people.
The engagement focused on the importance of civic responsibility, voter participation, and the critical role of youths in strengthening democratic institutions and good governance. Students were encouraged to take a keen interest in governance processes and contribute meaningfully to nation-building through informed and responsible civic engagement.

According to the organizers, the initiative was designed to equip students with the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions and actively participate in democratic processes, while fostering a culture of accountability and responsible citizenship.
The campaign also highlighted the importance of youth involvement in shaping the future of society, stressing that sustainable development and democratic growth depend significantly on the active participation of young people.

The Imo State SDGs Office noted that through initiatives such as the voter sensitization campaign, it continues to advance the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 — Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by empowering young people with the knowledge, values, and tools needed to become active and responsible citizens.
The office reaffirmed its commitment to promoting civic awareness, democratic values, and youth engagement across educational institutions and communities in the state as part of broader efforts to foster inclusive and sustainable development.
