Lagos CP Presents ₦89.2m Insurance Cheques to Families of 157 Fallen Police Officers

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, has presented 157 cheques totalling ₦89,201,523.07 to families and next-of-kin of deceased police officers who served under the Command.
Fatai presented the cheques on Thursday, September 18, 2026, at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, as part of efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to provide financial support to families of officers who lost their lives in the course of service.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the cheques represent claims under the welfare and insurance schemes of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner said the intervention underscored the commitment of the Force, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the welfare of police personnel and families of fallen officers.
Fatai acknowledged that the financial support could not replace the lives of the deceased officers, but said it demonstrated the Force’s determination to honour their sacrifices and ensure that their families were not abandoned.
He sympathised with the beneficiaries and urged them to make judicious use of the funds, particularly for the welfare and education of the children and other dependants left behind by the deceased officers.
The Lagos CP also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to facilitating the prompt processing of legitimate claims due to families of deceased personnel, assuring serving officers that their welfare and that of their families remained a priority of the Nigeria Police Force.
He noted that while no financial provision could replace a loved one, the intervention would provide some relief to affected families and reinforce the assurance that the sacrifices of fallen officers had not been forgotten.
The Lagos State Police Command appreciated the Inspector-General of Police for the intervention and extended its sympathy and continued solidarity to the beneficiaries.
