The Nigeria Police Force has received a major operational boost in Lagos as the Lagos State Security Trust Fund donated critical security assets to strengthen the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), aimed at tackling rising violent crimes and improving rapid response operations across the state.
The operational support, presented to the Lagos State Police Command ahead of the official launch of the VCRU, forms part of ongoing police reforms championed by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
Assets handed over by the Trust Fund included two operational vehicles, 50 ballistic helmets, 50 bulletproof vests, and 50 ballistic shields to enhance the effectiveness, mobility, and safety of officers attached to the new unit.
Presenting the equipment on behalf of the Trust Fund, Executive Secretary, Ayodele Ogunsan, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting security agencies through the provision of operational tools and logistics required for effective policing and public safety.

Receiving the assets on behalf of the command, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, commended the Lagos State Government and the Trust Fund for their sustained investment in strengthening the state’s security architecture.
He noted that the support would significantly enhance the operational readiness of the Violent Crime Response Unit and improve the command’s capacity to combat violent crimes, respond swiftly to emergencies, and protect lives and property across the state.
The police commissioner also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing, effective crime prevention, and improved public safety in line with the reform agenda of the Nigeria Police Force.

The VCRU is expected to serve as a specialised rapid intervention unit designed to respond to violent criminal activities and other security threats within Lagos State.
