The Nigerian Navy has uncovered about 85,000 litres of substance suspected to be stolen crude oil during a follow-up operation at Allison area of Rivers State, as part of efforts to prevent the resurgence of illegal oil bunkering activities in the area.
The operation was carried out by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny on September 29, 2026, following actionable intelligence on the establishment of a new illegal bunkering site.
According to the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the operation uncovered 16 concealed dugout pits, including four containing approximately 40,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil.

Three other pits were found to contain another 45,000 litres of substance suspected to be awaiting processing.
The troops also discovered hoses reportedly used for the movement of crude oil during the operation.

The latest discovery came barely one week after the Nigerian Navy deactivated a major illegal refining camp in the same area on September 22.
The Navy said the successive operations showed that attempts by criminal operators to re-establish illegal oil-processing activities in the area were being met with sustained naval pressure.
According to the statement, the interventions are aimed at limiting the ability of criminal operators to restore previously disrupted illegal refining and crude oil theft infrastructure.

The Navy said the recovered suspected stolen crude oil and other items discovered during the operation were handled in accordance with established procedures.

It added that the operation further underscored the importance of sustained and intelligence-led operations to deny criminal operators the infrastructure required to store, process and transport stolen crude oil.
